Jenks
The high quality of life in Jenks can be
attributed to several factors. Residents enjoy highly acclaimed
schools, safe and quiet neighborhoods, and an eclectic shopping
experience (this is the "Antique Capital of Oklahoma" after
all). Numerous year-round events, which include the Annual Jenks
Holiday Open House, the Puckerama Whistling Festival, and the
Jenks Home and Land Festival. In Summer of 2002, Jenks will
welcome the Oklahoma Aquarium. Over 200 exhibits and 1 million
gallons of water will delight both children and adults alike, as
the Aquarium upholds its mission of "Conservation through
Education."
History and Other Info
Like many towns in this area of the
country, Jenks owes its early development to oil, agriculture
and the railroad. The original site of Jenks was strategically
located at the intersection of major transportation routes. A
partnership between the Midland Valley Railroad and the Midland
Valley Townsite Company led to the establishment of a community
along the railroad. This location also benefited from a close
proximity to the Arkansas River. The discovery of oil led to
quick prosperity, though when these wells ran dry it was
agriculture that became the main economic driving force. A large
influx of Bulgarian immigrants further stabilized the town's
agricultural activities.
The City of
Jenks
provides a small town atmosphere with big city convenience
minutes away. Located along the West Bank of the Arkansas River,
Jenks is proud to be the host of the region's first river
entertainment/activity center. The City of Jenks is
revolutionizing the tourism market of Oklahoma.
The City of Jenks is also
proud to be recognized as the Antique Capital of Oklahoma.
Downtown Jenks offers the charm and lifestyle of a small
community. The turn-of-the-century look that reflects the Jenks
downtown offers a quaint and unique shopping experience.
As the years have
progressed, Jenks has developed from a small, suburban town to a
City which stands on its own, poised to lead the state in the
development of quality housing, business environments, and
tourism growth. All this and still maintaining that small town
feel that lets you know you're "Home".
